For the past three days, I have been registering and verifying all of my 60+ blogs with Google, Alexa and Quantcast. I’m placing trackers in the template codes to enable site traffic monitoring that will yield more accurate stats. My blog ranks have not been moving at all and I have comments on some four times the number of posts. So I’m resorting to hard core business tactics and some SEO tactics to find out if it will improve my blog ranks. The greatest in all of search engines for ranking is Alexa so witness The Midnight Writer’s Network holding hands with Alexa for good luck. I hope it works. Parlez vous francais?

Oui. I  hope you can speak en petite because I’ll be brushing up on my French today as I begin a marathon writing buzz for a website that promotes health insurance. They want me to translate into French. I figure out of fairness to my English audience, I’ll double post with English and a French translation.

Imagine my surprise when I opened my panel on Pay Per Post and found 46 assignments to complete within the next three days, and in French translation. Wow! That has never happened in my two years blogging so I’m up for the challenge. These are small posts so it won’t be too difficult and I’ll use an automatic translator because in all honesty…my French is very rusty.

(She didn’t speak English except for three deletive expletives that I’ll pass on writing here.) My grandparents were immigrants from France and its a fascinating story actually. We have a blog that serves as the connection point in our vast blogging network. I lovingly refer to The Midnight Writer’s Blogs as the “Grand Central Station” for our blogs. If you haven’t visited our station yet, take a few minutes to check it out. All the news and updates for all 60+ blogs in our system are published in this one handy location. It gets a little confusing trying to keep track of so many sites for our readers, so I developed this blog especially for convenience for me as the writer and for you as the reader.

Aside from the usual chatter you would expect to find on a blog written about a network of blogs, you will find blogging tips, freelance writing techniques, product and company reviews. I aim to spice it up with some photos and a streaming twitter widget. Be sure to follow me on twitter at @midnightwriter1, if you’re not already. How do you get those blog postings on a regular basis without running out of content? Some bloggers have used RSS feeds to fuel their blogs.

It may seem like the perfect solution. An RSS feed is a form of syndication used online. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication,” “Rich Site Summary,” or “RDF Site Summary.” No matter what you call it, there are risks associated with RSS feeds.

One risk is that your blog will be filled with junk content. When you rely on an RSS feed for your blog, you are not offering original or meaningful content. Your readers will not benefit and might not return to your blog again.

In addition to junk content, RSS feeds also often lead to duplicate content. If you are trying to build a reputation as an expert in any particular field, you do not want to have the same content on your blog as someone else.

Hi everyone! I finally did it! For two days, I went through the grunt work of creating an online portfolio and a resume. You can visit it at Cheryl Lynn Gardner.

Well, maybe not everything! But the important information about my writing persona is easy to access now.

It’s a nice website and it’s environmentally friendly from the “go green” color layout to the streaming message stating “Planting 100 trees right here in Colorado for every car purchased.” Now that is impressive! So if you’re eco conscious and want to contribute to the foresting of one of my favorite western states, then make your purchase at Flatiron, a Denver Land Rover Dealer. I clicked over to the hours and directions module where I found a fun interactive satellite imaging map.  The inventory is exciting to browse in their flash photo stream that gives a real 3 D effect.  The Range Rover models for 2009 display really well in this imaging style. It’s like actually being on the lot to check out their models in stock.

By the way, Flatirons Land Rover specializes only in Land Rovers.  I give them an extra thumbs up for knowing their product and the market.  Flatirons is not out to make a fortune at your cost. Their prices are comparable with room to face the competition.

Raise your hand if you can relate.

My creative zeal and my desire to write gets quashed whenever I push hard writing lots of articles every day to add some invisible calculator until it reaches X amount of dollars. ..just so I can pay the rent and bills or buy groceries. And this practice doesn’t allow time to pursue the creative magazine stories or that favorite research project or that novel on the shelf collecting dust.

Enough already!

This will be the topic of our discussions in this series for improving your freelance writing business. It all starts with finding private clients who pay well to free up your time and talents for loftier pursuits.

Let’s explore some of the common techniques used to find private clients, then come up with ideas for new ways to generate interest in you as a freelance writer.

1. Post a resume or portfolio online using various methods, sites and formats.
2. Create a bio on your personal website and/or blog.
3. Search the internet for opportunities then communicate with a proposal to individual listings.
4. Advertise your work on social sites like twitter, Facebook, My Space, Linkedin and etc.
5. Join content sites who pay you per view and write tons of content for a free bio listing and the exposure you will gain from their audience.
6. Word of mouth through friends, family and your immediate circle.

This is only an introductory list. It will expand as I research common methods for finding private clients with a little help from doing research and your important feedback. Please share your information below by leaving a comment.

It was work setting it up but Cephas and I had the passion for it because we love Twitter and Social networking. The Twitter Files will be a joy to maintain and to chronicle all the stories that can be posted there. Do you realize how broad and deep the subject matter is from Twitter? No boundaries!!! Finding topics will not be a problem. In fact, I will have to discipline myself enough to move away from the blog and move on to other ones that need my attention.

Tonight we received a special gift for the site. One of our new followers tweeted “The Truth is Out There” when they followed @thetweetfiles. Naturally, I clicked the “follow” button because I’m hungry for tweeters to follow our new site and read all the great stuff we’re posting there. When I clicked, I found a surprise that warmed my heart. A video shows all the tender love and compassion scenes between Mulder and Scully on the X-Files. Now the above phrase caught your attention, didn’t it? You may have had some thoughts similar to these:

“Hmmmm…I wonder what this post is about?”

or

“What are they talking about?”

or

“Was there a big fire some where?”

Regardless what you thought when you read “Smoke billowed in eerie twisted columns.”, it still made you think. It was mysterious. It was leading. It was expressive. It described action. You continued reading because you wanted to know more.

The phrase captured your attention.

This is only a small sample of how to use language to capture your audience. Most people like action when reading. Face it, we live in an action filled world where everything is fast and results are instantaneous. Writing has to compete with technology and video and audio and fast food and all things that show action “right now”.

To get that follow through you need to draw readers into your articles. Make them curious or interested enough to read past the first line. If the title is good, the first line will draw the reader further. The first paragraph has to tell the reader something about the phrase that drew that person this far.

We can’t wait till this site if fully operational and equipped with enough information to inspire writers and bloggers. The goal is to fill it to overflowing with great reviews with the help of fellow freelance writers and blog enthusiasts. Our hope is to draw a host of advertisers, marketers, entrepreneurs, webmasters, writers, publishers and other internet dependent businesses to our site to open the flood gates to lots of work for all who wish to join us in this venture. So share the word!

The Midnight Writer’s Network will exchange advertising with interested people who meet certain criteria, which will be posted here soon. I’ll probably create a widget for the sidebar then I’ll write a post about the requirements for a link exchange on this site or any site in the network. I’ll be creating banners to advertise the network and Elite Blog Reviews.

It was the wee hours of the morning whenever we finished selecting a domain name. This process took a couple hours because Cephas and I spent time conducting keyword research using the Market Samurai software and a program we’re testing from Crowd Mountain. I wrote an entire post about this new SEO optimization technique that you can read here.

This site will use the formula found in the program steps from Crowd Mountain. We’re testing the program on my twelve day one Dollar trial in order to make an informed decision about purchasing the program for a longer term at $47 per month. If it maximizes our blog ranks due to the proper use of the “right key words”, then Cephas and I are willing to pay for such a great tool and teaching program.

A favorite in my family is books, which is great since so many of us are also writers. I love browsing the bookstores checking out all the latest titles and its even more fun if I’m shopping for someone else.

Do you make gift lists? It’s a good way to remember every one’s names so you won’t forget any one on your list. Next, I brainstorm ideas for gifts that I believe my friends and loved ones will cherish. After a few days thought, I’m open to scratching some items from the list but only after I have fun pricing them. Window shopping for the holidays is half the fun!
